Vino de Pueblo '21 by Alvear 3 Miradas
Where: Montilla-Moriles, Andalucia, Spaino
Grape: Pedro Ximenez
This organic white wine from Spain is one of our finds of the year. When we tried it at a Trade Tasting in London in October, we expected a sweet, sticky sherry, as that's what the grape Pedro Ximenez normally results in. Instead, we found a slightly off-dry (meaning ever so slightly sweet), lively and fresh white wine, with delicious notes of apple and peach stones, and the honey, mineral and nutty notes of a sherry. This is amazing with seafood, especially Oysters and Scallops.
A little something we think you should know: Alvear is one of the oldest wineries in Spain, dating back to 1729. They use the Pedro Ximenez grape to make a range of sherry, from the driest of Finos to the sweetest of PXs. Their 3 Miradas project focus on showcasing the effect of soil and microclimate on wine.
Like the sound of this? Try this Austrian white wine that's also great with seafood - although a very different wine to this.
